The mission of Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc. is to provide the message of salvation, through faith in Jesus Christ, to individuals who are blind or visually impaired throughout the world.We do this by seeking opportunities to provide individuals who are blind or visually impaired with quality Christian materials in our special Braille and Large Print formats. The spiritual needs of people who are blind or visually impaired have been the focus of Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc. since it was founded in 1943. The organization has grown from producing titles in one language to over 30 languages today, and from a labor force of one volunteer working out of a shoebox in her home to over 7000 volunteers in over 200 work centers across the United States. Materials are distributed free of charge to over 120 countries worldwide. We are funded almost entirely by free will gifts from individuals wanting to make a spiritual difference.Over 180 million people worldwide have some type of visual impairment. Of these, 45 million are blind and 135 million have only partial sight. There are countries where less than 10% of blind persons are literate and less than 15% of blind children in several countries receive an education.
